Stołeczna Estrada

Stołeczna Estrada, set up in 1955, is the biggest cultural institution in Warsaw.

In our activities we bring together long experience, tradition, and innovative approach to art. We are active in various areas of culture and successfully organize festivals, concerts, shows, comedy nights, fetes, anniversaries, and exhibitions. We have realized artistic programs presenting Polish culture abroad many times, but our offer is intended mainly for the citizens of the capital city.

In order to fit the interests of the citizens of Warsaw, we try to meet the expectations of the widest audience possible, and at the same time, we discover areas that are still wastelands outside the mainstream of popular culture. Due to such an approach, we learned that there is a need to promote world music and we answered that need by organizing the Cross-Culture Warsaw Festival which has become one of the most important events in the capital city.

We pay special attention to space in which we locate our events. A symphonic concert at the airport, amongst taking off airplanes, is just one of many our untypical ideas. With a view to tansformation of urban spaces we created a project Strefa Kultury (Culture Zone) which in a natural way filled the vicinity of the Palace of Culture and Science and made it more friendly. Our main objectives are promotion of high culture and education through art. Therefore, we make efforts to create our own projects popularizing classical music in such a way that it is accesible for young audiences. In June, 2008, the album Rock Loves Chopin had its premiere. This project – created by the director of Stołeczna Estrada, Andrzej Matusiak – consists of compositions by Frideric Chopin creatively rearranged and performed by rock musicians.
We are always open to new challenges, and the coming years will abound in opportunities. We are already thinking about Euro 2012 in Warsaw, in organization of which we will surely participate.
